Mile 6 Dykelands 531'
Traipsing (Yorkshire for Trespass)
This Mile Point is on a meander where erosion outside the bend even shows up on satellite images and that was what I was hoping to photograph.
The Aire Rivers Trust has recently done some planting here to stabilise the banks so we know the farmer and I rang for permission to come off the Right of Way to take photos.
He warned me that heavy rain was forecast but I could go on. So far, so good but it was more tricky on the day.Good news: I missed the rain by a few hours but the weather was bright and glaring. The real obstacle was that this was nesting season and the Aire’s banks here were clearly territory held by a gang of oyster-catchers. Their presence and initial alarm cries gave me unequivocal notice to bog off. So I did and this photo is taken a bit further along beyond the nesting sites.
