Mile 15 Broughton Hall Estate 313’

Still on the Gargrave to Skipton walk following the river, I crossed this area where strategic cattle grazing is generating a wildlife sanctuary. The 30-40 acre site has mounds and scrapes which provide a mosaic of wetland and tussocky grassland with lots of different sedges and wild-flowers. All managed by the herd treading, tearing and pooing.

This curlew nesting here and poking about for grubs is a sign that it’s working.
