My rule for myself is to take a photo of or from the Mile Point or as close as I can legally get. Sometimes there are scenes or objects that are not all that close to a Mile but are of massive relevance to the river’s story as well as being unique. These are difficult decisions, believe me.

Mile 17 is a bit further up the river from Carlton Bridge and there is no public access although there were several members of the public wandering up there with their dogs. Not for me though because I have The Rule. In any case, Carlton Bridge was glowing in the evening light and I passed a happy hour or so trying not to look like a Citizen Speed Patrol, waiting for the right coloured car to cross.
