Aire Mile 41 Calverley 143'

Part of the flood defence system for Leeds. This dam gate can be raised from the river bed to stop most of the river flowing and the water can be held back for about a mile. It can be stored until it is safe to slowly release it. On this day the river was flowing at 1.75m measured at Kirkstall Abbey.

The river banks are slippery now and I almost made the penultimate sacrifice for this shot. I'm not planning to fall in.
