Aire Mile 57 St Aidans RSPB Reserve 53’

Former open cast mine which flooded in 2002 when the River Aire burst its banks. It was taken over by the RSPB for a reserve. The new wetlands are habitat for an array of wildlife that chooses to visit but this excavator remains on site as a reminder of the former coal mine.
